A fraudster has sent out a fake letter claiming to be a senior housing officer from Brighton and Hove City Council.
The letter also said that someone from the council would visit “to check on residency” in the next fortnight.
The council said: “A resident in Brighton and Hove has received a fake letter advising them that someone from the council will be visiting them in the next fortnight.
“The resident alerted the council to the letter which says that a visit would be made ‘to check on residency’.
“The letter claims to be from a ‘senior housing officer’ in ‘East Sussex County Council’.
“The letter is on an old version of Brighton and Hove City Council headed paper with an old address at Priory House where the council no longer has offices.”
The council added: “We are concerned that someone is trying to dupe our customers into allowing them on to their properties.
“Anyone receiving a letter like this should ignore it and let the Corporate Fraud Team know on anti-fraud@brighton-hove.gov.uk or call 01273 291847.”
