It’s the first day back after the Christmas and new year engineering works but already Southern are reporting their first delays.
Commuters from Brighton and Hove can expect hold ups of half an hour as a result of a signal problem in the Purley area. This was where engineering works took place over the break.
And while Network Rail is working on the problem, it looks likely to affect services until at least 4pm.
Southern said: “A signalling problem at Purley is causing delays of up to 30 minutes to trains between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon. Disruption is expected to continue until 4pm.
“Gatwick Express services have been reduced to a half-hourly frequency.
“Thameslink Brighton to London Bridge services have been reduced to an hourly service.
“Some further service alterations and cancellations will need to be made due to the ongoing signalling problem.”
