Solly March was injured in a clash of heads with Harry Lennon which saw the Charlton defender go off and March reappear with a Steve Foster style bandage.
David Stockdale made a point-blank save from Johann Berg Gudmundsson and clawed out a goal-bound header from the same player.
Then during the eight minutes of first half stoppage time Stockdale made another great stop from Lookman but the Seagulls went in at the break two goals down.
