The new John Lewis Christmas advert has been filmed in Whitehawk.
It’s become a fixture on the media calendar and is seen as a reassuring symbol of Middle England.
And the tale with the Brighton backdrop is due to be screened on Channel 4 for the first time this evening (Friday 6 November).
The tearjerking story follows a little girl called Lily as she spots a lonely old man on the Moon.
She manages to send him a Christmas present, presumably from John Lewis.
If so, she might have a fair old journey, as the firm has no stores in Brighton and Hove, only a couple of Waitrose branches.
John Lewis has bought premises in Brighton – currently occupied by Boots on the corner of Queen’s Road and North Street.
But it looks like being a few years at least until Lily can pop to her local John Lewis rather than one that is half the world away – to borrow the title of the song in the ad.
The campaign is also intended to raise money and awareness for Age UK. To help or to find out more about “No one should have no one at Christmas”, click here.
Perhaps not surprisingly, eagle-eyed locals had already unwrapped the secret location of this year’s ad – in Wiston Road – as long ago as August.
Here’s a tweet from Friday 28 August. Happy Christmas!
