A Brighton landlord has submitted plans to build a block of small flats on a city centre car park.
Baron Homes wants to build the block next to another of its properties Windsor Court, which is used by the city council to house homeless people, and Windsor Lodge.
But the flats in this block, six one bedroom studios and one two-bedroom apartment, are intended to be sold.
The application, submitted by Baron Homes director Nazila Blencowe, includes a design statement which says: “The Brighton and Hove Local Plan 2005 predicts that by 2011, about 45% of households will comprise of just one person. It is clear that Brighton needs more housing and we believe our proposal addresses this need.
“The proposal aims to create a new building which will be similar in appearance to Windsor Lodge, creating a pair of properties which flank the courtyard.
“There will be no off street parking for the property. Residents parking permits may be available through Brighton & Hove Council, but with such good links to transport and local amenities, it is not expected that car ownership would be a priority for this proposal.”
