A man was forced at knifepoint to hand over his wallet and pin before muggers withdrew £250 from his card and spent a further £245 shortly after.
Matthew Jarrett, 21, from Warwickshire, was visiting friends in Brighton when he was approached by a man outside Coalition night club last Saturday (24 October) at about 3.30am.
The man, described as a tall thin white male, led Mr Jarrett to King’s Road Arches where he was threatened by three other men.
Mr Jarrett said: “I was about to walk away but one of them grabbed me and he had a knife. The guy I originally spoke to took me to the cash point and I didn’t really know what to do.”
CCTV captured the pair at a cash point near King’s Road Arches.
“I gave him the wrong pin a couple of times but when he threatened to beat me up I obviously gave it to him and he withdrew £250 right in front of me.”
A total of £495 was spent on the card but has now been reimbursed by the bank.
The men tried to spend a further £500 the next day but the card had already been cancelled.
Mr Jarrett said: “I’m glad I got my money back but it ruined what was meant to be a great weekend.”
The suspect with the knife is described as a black male in his mid twenties, 6ft tall and of average build.
