Could these little cameras give a clue as to where the next road schemes will be carried out in Brighton and Hove?
A clutch of them have appeared on traffic lights in the city centre over the past weeks to collect traffic data for future major projects.
The cameras have been spotted in Churchill Square and Coombe Road, and the council says they are also installed at the key junctions along the seafront and the city centre.
The data they collect and store will be used to plan the transport elements of new developments over the next two years.
A city council spokeswoman said: “The camera is being used for a different purpose – one of several out in the central area of the city that will give our transport planners information about traffic movements and conditions ahead of various planned major projects.
“The amount of data required means that some is being collected by cameras, as this is a more efficient way of recording and storing the information until it needs to be analysed. This will help us to plan with confidence the transport elements of new developments over the next two years.”
“It’s mainly the key junctions on the main corridors along the seafront and in the city centre, for a number of projects.”
