More buses have been put on the number 2 and 22 routes to help people living in Woodingdean get around the city more easily.
The improved service followed a large response to a bus consultation carried out in March, when most said they did not want any changes to routes serving the area, but better reliability.
As a result, Brighton and Hove Buses are spending £600,000 a year on one extra bus on service 2 to improve reliability, and two on service 22, improving frequency to every 15 minutes.
Andrew Boag, Chair of Brighton Area Buswatch said: “We worked with Brighton and Hove Buses on suggested improvements and are pleased that there is now a significant improvement to both the 2 and 22 services.
“The more frequent service on the 22 coupled with improved reliability should make it much more attractive to bus users in Woodingdean.
“The bus company has honoured the commitment made to local residents earlier in the year when the service was poor and generating a lot of complaints. This is an excellent outcome.”
In regard to the operational actions made, bus company Business Development Manager Patrick Warner said: “We paid particular attention to how our controllers respond when our buses experience multiple instances of severe congestion and roadworks throughout the city and as a result it is extremely rare now that a bus will ever be turned short or fail to complete its journey into Woodingdean.
“At the conference the residents overwhelming recognised clear improvements in our services and thanked us for listening to their views in February and throughout the consultation.”
Former Woodingdean Councillor, Geoff Wells met with Brighton and Hove Managing Director Martin Harris earlier in the year to raise concerns about service reliability prior to his retirement from the council.
“He said at the Community Conference on Saturday: “I would like to thank managers from Brighton and Hove Buses for taking our concerns seriously and say that as a regular bus user, I have noticed the big improvement in reliability of our buses.”
