Detectives are investigating whether a savage baseball bat attack on a 15-year-old boy in a Portslade park was carried out in revenge for two teenagers being tasered the day before.
Rumours are circulating on social media that the 18-year-old arrested in connection with Friday’s attack, Joshua Tester, and a teenage girl were themselves attacked with a taser the previous day.
Police have confirmed they are aware of an incident, and it is forming part of the investigation into the baseball bat attack in Easthill Park.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Police are aware of an incident reported on Thursday (8 October) in The Rise, Portslade Brighton.
“It forms part of the overall investigation into an assault on a 15-year-old boy on Friday (9 October) in Easthill Park, Brighton.
“Police enquiries are continuing.”
Tester, of Flint Close, Portslade, and a 16-year-old boy from Hove were both charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and having an offensive weapon after the attack, which happened at 8pm on Friday as dog walkers were in the park.
After appearing at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Tester was remanded in custody and the 16-year-old was released on conditional bail until they both appear at Lewes Crown Court on Thursday, 29 October.
A 17-year-old boy from Brighton was also arrested on suspicion of conspiring to cause GBH with intent after the baseball bat attack. He has been released on police bail until Sunday, 25 October.
