Fears are growing for the sailor of a catamaran which has been discovered floating unmanned in the Thames Estuary.
Kent Police has asked Sussex Police to publish an appeal for information about the boat, which was found with a black North Face rucksack containing clothes, maps and cash on board.
The vessel was spotted about 27 miles north-east off North Foreland in Thanet shortly after 8pm on Saturday 26 September. Coastguard crews searched the area overnight and are continuing this morning but nothing further has been discovered.
The catamaran is a white New Cat 12 model with the serial number 7064-1999 and make number K-0566. It has been recovered and is now being kept at the Port of Ramsgate.
Kent Police officers are growing increasingly concerned for whoever may have been sailing the vessel and is appealing for anyone with information to get in touch by calling 101 and quoting reference 26-1235.
