Crowds of people are gathering on the seafront under the flag of the People’s Republic of Brighton and Hove to greet Jeremy Corbyn as he arrives to address the TUC this lunchtime.
A banner has also been unfurled as scores of Brightonians and Hovites wait excitedly for the new Labour leader to make an appearance.
Fletcher Chrustian, who organised the delegation, said he had this message for Mr Corbyn: “We in Brighton and Hove only have to look at the massive i360 to get an idea of the scale of your mandate. It is huge.
“We respect that mandate. Many of us supported and voted for you. We wish you well with your speech today and hope you will have time to see at least something of our city.
“We cannot say that all 17,000 of us in the People’s Republic of Brighton and Hove agree with everything you say, or with all your policies. But we can say that our Facebook page went haywire when you won.
“If your supporters work hard, there is hope that we can see some positive change in this country.”
Local dad Terry McDermott, who has brought his three-year-old twins Arthur and Louis, said: “We saw it posted on Facebook and thought we would come down to have a look.”
Great odd’s on Tories to win 2020 and David Cameron to be longest serving PM….or Corbyn to be gone by end of 2016…decisions decisions
