A controversial former Green councillor has applied to become the next chief executive of Brighton and Hove City Council.
Ben Duncan, who was deselected by his party over outspoken tweets, said on his Facebook page that he was pitching to replace the ousted former chief executive Penny Thompson.
Mr Duncan, who once worked for Green MP Caroline Lucas, wrote: “My application for the post of chief executive of Brighton and Hove Council is based on principles of removing profit from delivery of local public services through in-sourcing and rebalancing the authority’s pay structures by reducing senior managers’ salaries while increasing junior staff’s pay.
“I’d lead from the front: doing the job for £50,000 a year instead of the advertised £150,000, saving £100,000 every year – more than 1 per cent of the reported annual ‘financial shortfall’ at a stroke.
“As a Bevendean resident, I wouldn’t need or claim any of the offered £10,000 relocation allowance either – another saving!
“As a care worker rather than a career bureaucrat I have unrivalled experience of some of the city’s most vulnerable residents and low-paid and insecurely employed workers – an asset for any council interested in fairness, I’d have thought …
“Boom! We’ll see how the council responds!”
If this man gets the job, I will never vote Labour again. He’s a despicable man
I agree; all the incompetent, incapable Green Marxist loons are truly vile people
This man is an utter and unpleasant fool. Now he thinks he is a joker.
err do you think anyone needs more than fity grand even if they do how can that be justified in a body thats both facing austerity and is providing services for the public good, can any one deal with what he saying rather than if they think he is a good person or not. maybe the job should be offered to someone on the basis he is argueing even if you think it should nt be him…
