A good samaritan recovered a stolen purse after it was taken in the centre of Brighton.
Sussex Police said: “Police in Brighton are seeking a city centre ‘good samaritan’ who spotted that a purse was being stolen and returned it to the victim.
At about 4.20pm on Monday 24 August, the man, known at present only as ‘Michael’, was in Western Road, at the junction with Hampton Place, outside Sainsburys, when a woman out shopping had her purse taken from her handbag by another woman.
“Michael intervened, distracting the would-be thief, who dropped the purse and he returned it to the owner.
“He left the scene before police arrived, without giving any further details.”
PC Marcus Clark said: “We would like to talk to Michael as he is clearly an important witness.
“If that is you, if you know who Michael is or if you saw what happened, please contact us.”
Anyone with information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
