The death toll from the Shoreham airshow crash could rise to 20 as recovery work continues, Sussex Police said.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Barry said that the distressing job of clearing the site, gathering evidence and continuing the investigation was continuing.
He told the BBC this morning that the force was aware of at least 11 people who had probably died in the crash on Saturday (22 August).
Mr Barry said that the number was likely to rise and could reach 20.
He said: “The number of highly likely dead remains at 11 but may rise. However, we do not expect that figure to be greater than 20, probably fewer.”
So far tributes have been paid to three of those who died – Jacob Schilt, 23, from Brighton, his Worthing United team-mate Matt Grimstone, also 23, and personal trainer Matt Jones, 24, from Littlehampton.
I agree the air show should be over the sea…it’s probably for financial reasons that it is not…They like gated venues for ticket sales..so sorry for the loss of these families it’s devastating.
