The tower of the Brighton i360 is expected to reach its full 530ft (162m) height next week.
The steel cans are being jacked up each time another is added, with the penultimate lift having taken place this week.
Once the structure has been jacked up for a final time next week – and the 17th can slotted into place – the jacking tower will be dismantled.
The news comes just a few weeks after the i360 became the tallest structure in Sussex, dwarfing the nearby block of flats, Sussex Heights, and the power station chimney at Shoreham.
Brighton i360 architect David Markssaid: “Building the i360 is a formidable engineering operation.
“The jacking tower is a vertical factory, a vertical production line. Individual steel cans go in at the bottom and the finished tower comes out of the top, with the steel cans safely bolted together and clad in an aluminium veil.”
Segments of the glass pod are due to arrive in Brighton in the autumn when work will begin on the beach buildings.
Brighton i360 chief executive Eleanor Harris said: “Up close the tower is an incredibly elegant and beautiful piece of architecture soaring up into the sky and it will be fantastic to see the tower revealed in all its glory when the square jacking tower is removed next month.”
Can’t wait to see the final height!
