“In many significant categories, Varndean’s results this year have been the best ever – and continue the upward trend in the school’s results that we have seen over the last five years.”
The highlights include
- 67.5 per cent of students entered achieved the EBacc qualification – the school’s best ever result.
- More than a quarter of all GCSE results are A* or A (26 per cent) and nearly half of all grades were A* to B (47 per cent). This also represents the schools best ever result.
- 139 students achieved at least eight passes graded A* to C.

Head teacher William Deighan said: “The results this year have been fantastic and in many aspects represent the highest ever results for the school.
“We are thrilled for the students and for their teachers, who have worked so hard to achieve these outcomes.
“The work we do within the citywide Secondary School Partnership (SSP) and Challenge Partners continues to be a positive force in raising standards at Varndean School and across Brighton and Hove.”
