Huddersfield Town 1 Brighton & Hove Albion 1
The Albion lost their 100 per cent record this evening (Tuesday 18 August) after a draw at the John Smiths Stadium.
Beram Kayal scored the Seagulls’ quickest goal for 11 years, netting after just 18 seconds.
The Israeli could have had a second later in the half but his shot was deflected over.
Gatean Bong was lucky to escape a sending off after crudely chopping down Jacob Butterfield. Instead, the Albion full-back was cautioned.
It was Butterfield who levelled the score for Town with a 20-yard strike that eluded David Stockdale in the Albion goal.
Albion’s new signing Jamie Murphy replaced the injured Kazenga LuaLua and nearly set up fellow substitute Chris O’Grady, who headed over. Dale Stephens also had a chance to restore Albion’s lead but shot over as well.
Later, Stockdale saved well from Nahki Wells.
Albion drop to second in the Championship behind new leaders Ipswich Town and one place above recently promoted MK Dons.
The Seagulls next take on Blackburn Rovers at the Amex on Saturday (22 August) at 3pm.
