There’s no longer any excuse for missing your stop now that all of Brighton and Hove Buses can make audio ‘next stop’ announcements.
The Talking Buses initiative has been brought in to help the visually impaired as well as the many tourists who visit the city.
It’s the latest addition to a programme which already includes the Helping Hand and Taxi Guarantee schemes, Dementia Safe Havens and Grace Eyre Foundation workshops, to name a few.
This approach is based on a company-wide ethos of respect and empathy. The company forms partnerships with user groups to develop a deeper understanding of what it means to be truly accessible. It understands that having the freedom, ability and confidence to travel can transform lives.
Managing Director Martin Harris said: “Having all of our buses now with audio-visual ‘next-stop’ announcements is another significant development in our accessibility programme. We are fully committed to access for all both as a business and social objective”.
This system will also enable live announcements from the control centre to advise passengers of disruptions or diversions.
This would be so much better if the announcements were voiced by well-known people: Tom Baker on the 25 route, Stephen Fry on the number 7, Katie Price on the 1 & 1A…
