The Open Market is celebrating a year of opening with a party on Saturday, the centrepiece of which will be a giant Scalextric.
The popular market, which opened last July following a £20m renovation of the market and surrounding area, is promising music, fun and balloons as well as the electric car racing game.
Entertainers, musicians, free gifts and a free face painter will join the scores of permanent shops, galleries and cafes and Saturday market traders.
A market spokeswoman said: “If this wasn’t exciting enough, there’s the chance to beat your friends or take on all comers in our magnificent Scalextric challenge – four cars racing at once with new digital technology allowing you to change lanes to overtake like Lewis Hamilton, or to block your opponent like Dick Dastardley.
“It’s just £1 per race and there are prizes on offer for the fastest drivers, though it’s probably more about the honour at stake!”
