Detectives have arrested a man on suspicion of raping a woman after she blacked out during an epileptic fit.
The 47-year-old man was also being held on suspicion of using threatening, abusive words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
He has been bailed until Tuesday 11 August while detectives continue their investigation into the attack in St Ann’s Well Gardens in Hove on Thursday 18 June.
The 24-year-old woman also had her iPod stolen while she was unconscious.
Sussex Police said that detectives were continuing to appeal to anyone who may have been in the area during the evening of the attack.
Detective Sergeant Emma Vickers, of Brighton CID, said: “This was a particularly nasty attack, targeting someone who was extremely vulnerable.
“The victim recalls seeing a man in a hoodie walking through the park shortly before the incident. I’d ask that person to come forward as they may be able to help us with our inquiries.”
Anyone else who was in the area and who saw or heard anything suspicious or who may have other information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
Alternatively, the force said, people could contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
