The Labour MP for Hove Peter Kyle has been appointed to House of Commons Education and Adoption Bill Committee.
The committee will discuss the bill in detail over the coming month with the aiming of completing their debates by mid-July.

Mr Kyle spoke during the initial debate about the bill – known as the second reading – and in his maiden speech he described leaving school without any useful qualifications.
He went back to school in his twenties before going to Sussex University as a mature student. He now has a PhD.
He has served as a governor of two schools in Brighton and Hove – the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA) and the Portslade Aldridge Community Academy (PACA). He chairs the governors of BACA.
Mr Kyle said: “It’s great that the first bill committee I’ve been appointed to since becoming an MP is the Education Bill because it is an issue I care so much about.
“Nobody wants to challenge underperformance in our education system more than I do but there is a lot in this bill that worries me and I will use this as an opportunity to challenge the government where I see dangers and be a constructive partner wherever possible.
“The government failed to provide the House of Commons with a legal definition of ‘coasting’ last week and have so far failed to provide it to the bill committee.
“This makes a mockery of our legislative process and must be humiliating for DfE officials and all education professionals who take pride in their work and look to government for support rather than the ideological game-playing that seems to be ruling the day.”
