Police are appealing for witnesses after a patrol car was damaged while officers were dealing with a report of an assault.
Officers were called to Old Steine and parked close to Royal Albion Hotel at 3am on Saturday (20 June) to a report that a man had been attacked.
While the officers were away from the car dealing with the 999 call, the vehicle’s passenger side wing mirror had been damaged.
The glass had been smashed and the casing and the electric mechanism had been damaged. The vehicle had to be taken out of use while it was repaired.
PC Kevin Stephenson said: “Damage to an emergency vehicle takes the vehicle out of service leading to us having fewer vehicles to answer emergency calls from members of the public.
“The area around Old Steine was busy with people socialising and I’m appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call us.”
