Hedgehogs will be the focus of attention at a fun day in Hove today (Saturday 9 May).
The Fabulous Hedgehog Fun Day is due to take place in the Knoll Park Pavilion from noon to 4pm to mark the end of Hedgehog Awareness Week.
The organiser, HK Hedgehogs, said on the group’s Facebook page: “Find out all about the hedgehogs living in our gardens, and how you can help them.
“We will have lots of brilliant stuff for you to do, from hedgehog-themed craft activities to wild gardening ideas, badge making and face painting.
“And we’ll have Henry Johnson, hedgehog officer for the national Hedgehog Street project, as our special guest.
“There will be refreshments, a raffle and local hedgehog experts too.”
HK Hedgehogs said that its mission was “to protect the hedgehogs we’re so lucky to have in Hangleton and Knoll and to encourage more of these amazing animals to make the area their home.
“As part of the national Hedgehog Street project, we want to make every street a hedgehog street, bringing together the community to link and manage gardens and green spaces and create ideal hedgehog habitats.
“We provide awareness-raising events and activities throughout the year for local residents and schools and assist with hedgehog conservation research and studies carried out by organisations like Brighton University and the RSPCA.”
Hedgehog Street is a joint project of the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) and the People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES).
