A protest against rising rents invited members of the public to bash a tenant pinata in Pavilion Gardens on Monday.
The Brighton and Hove arm of the Living Rent Campaign were campaigning for more social housing, and end to right to buy, and registration for landlords.
Almost 3,000 people have signed a petition supporting their aims.
The campaign’s Ali Ghanimi said: “Passers by were invited to play the part of greedy landlords blinded by profit and hammering tenants.
“We also used a sleeping bag to show what is now home for an increasing number of people in our city and asked people to send a postcard with some facts about housing and homelessness to local politicians.
“The city’s housing crisis has been exacerbated by policies like Right to Buy and austerity.”
No doubt this was organised by the ridiculous, incapable and incompetent Green Party
