Racing was abandoned at Brighton today (Wednesday 6 May) because of the stormy winds.
The official race report said: “The continuing very strong winds had dried the ground out since yesterday and it now rode good to firm.”
The report then gave the results of the first two races of the day and added: “The rest of the meeting was abandoned due to the weather.
“The high winds were lifting and moving the protective mats laid down across roads where they cross the track.
“To gallop over a moving surface with tarmac potentially exposed would greatly increase the risk of a horse falling.”
The next meeting at Brighton Racecourse is due to take place on Friday 29 May.
