The annual children’s parade swept through the streets of Brighton today with 80 primary schools involved.
About 5,000 children were expected to take part. They were supported by parents and teachers with crowds also lining the streets to watch the opening event of the Brighton Festival.
The theme this year is “taking flight”. The organisers said: “Previous years have seen participants dress up as everything from letters of the alphabet and Brighton street names to books, mermaids and even slices of cake.
“This year’s event will ask those involved to explore the idea of taking flight – be that flights of fancy, the flight of birds, the process of flying or the act of leaping into the unknown.”
The fun started in the North Laine and continued down North Street, East Street and on to the seafront.
