A woman has been stabbed in Brighton. She has been taken to hospital.
Sussex Police closed Upper Lewes Road while it dealt with the aftermath of the incident, including an examination of the crime scene.
Rush-hour queues were building up in the surrounding area between 5pm and 6pm.
Sussex Police said: “At 4pm on Tuesday (14 April) a woman received a facial cut in an incident in the street in Upper Lewes Road, Brighton.
“She is currently being treated for the injury at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
“A man was arrested near by on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and is currently in custody for interview and further inquiries.
“It is believed that the couple are known to each other.
“Police have taken possession of a knife found nearby.
“A section of Upper Lewes Road has been closed while the scene is examined.
“The investigation is at an early stage and no further information is currently available.”
