A fire at a home in Brighton yesterday (Thursday 9 April) was caused by a discarded cigarette, the fire service said.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that it was called out at 9.40am to reports of a fire at a property in the town.
The fire service said: “Crews from Preston Circus and Roedean attended an address in Manor Close in Whitehawk.
“They used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel to put out the fire.
“There are no reports of injuries.
“The fire was caused by a cigarette which was thrown in a bin in the lounge, causing the contents of the bin to smoulder.”
