Commuters to and from Brighton and Hove face cancellations and delays of up to an hour on the main line to London this morning (Tuesday 31 March).
The train operator Southern said that a signal failure between Preston Park and Wivelsfield was causing delays to trains between Brighton and Haywards Heath.
The company said: “There is no firm estimate yet of how long disruption will last.”
One commuter said: “They are running trains up the down line between Preston Park and Burgess Hill.”
He also that there was major congestion at Three Bridges.
Passengers faced waiting on platforms in high winds with gusts of up to 55mph.
Southern and Thameslink said that they were accepting each other’s tickets and London Undergroind would also accept their tickets.
Southern said that updates were being tweeted using the hashtag #wivelsfield.
The high winds prompted the closure of the bridge at the Dartford crossing, leading to long tailbacks on the M25 as all traffic had to use the tunnels.
