An optimistic householder has apparently decided to test the council’s kerbside collection service to its limit – by putting a sofa in his black recycling box.
The odd sight was spotted by local journalist Mike Ward, who posted it on Twitter.
He joked: “I hate how Brighton recycling boxes can’t even accommodate a sofa. Get it sorted, Brighton council!”
And the council has gamely risen to the challenge, with a reminder of better ways of getting rid of bulky items.
A council spokesperson said: “Sofas don’t have to meet such an inglorious end! There are many charities in the city that will collect and recycle unwanted furniture.
“The council also offers a bulky waste collection service, operated by KSD Group Environmental Services.”
