An NHS health trust has started an investigation into the disappearance and death of a patient from one of its hospitals, in Hove.
Janet Muller, 21, went missing from Mill View Hospital, in Nevill Avenue, Hangleton, on Thursday 12 March.
The Brighton University student’s body was found in the boot of a burning Volkswagen Jetta the next afternoon (Friday 13 March).
The saloon car had been abandoned and set on fire in Rusper Road, close to the Ifield Golf and Country Club, Crawley.
Post-mortem tests indicate that Miss Muller, who was studying at Brighton University’s Eastbourne campus, died from breathing in smoke.
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is investigating the circumstances of her disappearance from Mill View.
A man has been remanded in custody after being charged with murdering Miss Muller.
Christopher Jeffrey-Shaw, 26, of Lakeside, in Beckenham, south London, appeared at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday (19 March) and was remanded in custody until Thursday 9 April.
A second man has been arrested. Sussex Police said that a 30-year-old man had been held on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with Miss Muller’s death.
