Independent radio station RadioReverb raised almost £3,000 with a mammoth 52-hour live broadcast last weekend.
The eight-year-old community station, which last year raised £2,000, was trending locally on Twitter over the weekend as it attempted to raise enough money to stay ad-free and independent.
This year’s Reverbathon saw rap battles between DJs, live music from local bands and a fantastic day of female led shows on International Women’s Day.
RadioReverb is run entirely by volunteers and all the money raised goes directly back into the running of the station, upgrading equipment and giving an opportunity to bring in new shows and new local voices.
Melita Dennett, Chair of RadioReverb, said: “These are challenging times for community radio, but RadioReverb continues to thrive because we are all about Brighton and Hove, and listeners and sponsors know that.
“Our volunteers are also committed, highly professional and great ambassadors for a radio station that holds Brighton and Hove at the very heart of what we do.”
The station is still receiving donations following the success of the Reverbathon at the weekend and you can donate at www.radioreverb.com. Radio Reverb is based in Brighton and can be found on 97.2FM.
Fantastic website and well worth listening to it. Music, football, comedy, business, LGBT and food & drink shows, plus they support local bands.
