The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby is to preach a sermon and answer questions at St Peter’s Church in Brighton tomorrow morning (Sunday 8 March).
His visit marks a remarkable turnaround for a church that was earmarked for closure until just over five years ago.
He will be welcomed by the Reverend Archie Coates, who came down from Holy Trinity Brompton to revive St Peter’s in November 2009.
A member of the team at St Peter’s, Harriet Morris, said on a church blog: “This Sunday we are very excited to have Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, coming to speak to us at St Peter’s.
“We feel very privileged about this, as Archie was saying on Sunday, he normally visits countries and continents – not parishes.
“We are hoping to make him feel part of the family here with as warm a welcome as we can give him so please do invite friends and family along.
“The service will begin at 10.30am (no 9.30 or 11.30 services – the 8am and The Six are running as normal). But do come early to make sure you get a seat.”
