Clients of a former Brighton brothel have been disappointed to find it is being turned into a bakery.
Most residents are thrilled at the news that artisan bakery The Flour Pot is opening on Elm Grove at the end of next week.
But builders busy carrying out its refit have been amused to find customers after a knocking not a kneading ringing the doorbell.
Owner Oliver Hyde is confident the success of the bakery will quickly dispel any memories of its more risque past.
He said: “I started the business three years ago and until last year we only had a wholesale business in operation.
“We opened the Sydney street shop in June last year and have been thrilled with the response from customers. This made the decision to open the small residential shop in Elm Grove easier.
“I believe there is a real resurgence for local businesses that aim to become a focal point for residents in these lovely urban settings.
“We will of course be selling our hand crafted breads, cakes and patisserie with fantastic coffee from our friends at Small Batch.”
