The route for a march in protest at council cuts has been re-routed after the venue for the crunch budget meeting was changed.
The Brighton Children’s Centres Campaign is asking people to join it on Thursday, February 26 and march to where city councillors will decide which of three budget options to take.
Two of four potential outcomes currently on the table – the Conservative 0% budget and the Green’s alternative 2% budget in the case of a no vote at referendum – would see four of Brighton and Hove’s 12 children’s centres close.
This is the outcome campaigners hope to protect from the cuts.
The Green’s preferred 5.9% budget, which depends on a yes vote at referendum would see them retained.
It’s not yet known exactly how Labour would balance their proposed 2% budget, but they say they would table amendments which could include saving the at-threat centres.
The meeting was originally due to be held at Brighton Town Hall in Bartholomew Square – but the venue has now been changed to Hove Town Hall.
The march will now start at 4pm in New Road, and travel up North Street and along Western Road to Hove Town Hall.
