People in Brighton and Hove take more selfies than anywhere else in the UK, according to a new study.
Createitnow analysed pictures posted on the photo sharing social network Instagram labelled with the hashtag #selfie and tagged with their location from 1 November last year to 5 January this year.
It then compared these to local authority populations, and found that Brighton and Hove came out on top, making it, in its words, the “most vain”.
The company said: “Brighton, the colourful and creative capital of the UK, can now boast another accolade: it is now the selfie capital of the UK.”
The study calculated there were seven selfies in Brighton per 100,000 of the population.
However, it does stress the research is just for fun, and as the full sample of photographs was just 966, it shouldn’t be taken too seriously .
It adds: “We recognise that the data collected is only a fraction of the true amount of selfies taken; not everyone allows their location to be attached to their images and most people that take a selfie dont use the #selfie hashtag.”
