Do you know how the military record of a Brighton soldier who served in both world wars came to be found in Hove Park on Remembrance Day?
Joseph Cunningham’s record was found in Hove Park, Hove, on Tuesday 11 November along with a RAFA badge at around 10am and handed in to Hove Police Station on the same day.
Joseph was born in Brighton in 1885. He began serving in the Territorial Army in 1912 before working his way up the ranks to Major in 1942, having served his country in both the first and second world wars.
“The record of service also shows that Joseph married his wife Doris in 1910 and had two daughters named Irene and Sheila.
Property Assistant Scott Reeve said: “Usually we only keep lost property for 30 days. However given the historical importance of the items and that they were found on Remembrance Day we would really like to reunite them with their owner, if not they will be donated.”
