A body has been found on the beach at Rottingdean shortly after 8am today (Sunday 11 January).
It is believed to be the body of Dan Nicholls, 23, of Florence Road, Brighton. He was one of two men swept out to sea when a dare went wrong on Brighton beach early yesterday (Saturday 10 January).
A member of the public reported finding the body at 8.10am, Sussex Police said, and it is currently being recovered from the scene.
Yesterday afternoon the body of Freddie Reynolds, 24, of Buckingham Place, Brighton, was found on the beach at Saltdean.
He went into the stormy sea near the Palace Pier to try to save his friend who was caught by a wave at the water’s edge.
Detective Chief Inspector Carwyn Hughes said: “Dan’s family has been informed and has yet to make a formal identification but it is likely to be Dan.
“We are supporting them in what has been a horrendous weekend for all those involved.
“Our search is now suspended while identification is confirmed.”
