Charlton Athletic 0 Brighton & Hove Albion 1
Brighton and Hove Albion won their third game in a row, beating Charlton at the Valley with a 62nd minute goal from the recently recalled Rohan Ince.
Albion had a chance in the first minute when Addicks keeper Neil Etheridge dropped the ball in front of Solly March but his shot was blocked.
March was involved again when he was brought down just outside the box but Danny Holla sent his free kick over.
The rejuvenated David Stockdale made a good save from former Reading defender André Bikey.
Stockdale also had to be alert to foil Igor Vetokele who scored twice at the Amex when the teams met in August.
Ince’s winner came from a March free kick which the giant midfielder headed home at the back post.
Before the end Stockdale made another good stop from Vetokele.
The victory propels the Seagulls to 19th place in the Championship.
Albion now have a run a three home games in eight days. They entertain Brentford at the Amex next Saturday (17 January) in the league before taking on Ipswich Town in another Championship home fixture the following Wednesday (21 January).
The Seagulls end a hectic week by playing the FA Cup holders Arsenal at Falmer on Sunday 25 January in the fourth round. The tie will be televised, earning the club a £144,000 windfall.
