Donors gave more than £20,000 to the Brighton Housing Trust (BHT) Christmas appeal this year – the most ever, the charity said.
BHT bosses said a public thank you to all those who gave for their outstanding generosity this Christmas and for ensuring that the charity exceeded its fundraising target of £20,000.
The charity ran its Christmas campaign throughout December. Its aim was to raise awareness of homelessness and to fundraise to provide services for men and women who were homeless over the festive period and in the year ahead.
The campaign was a huge success, BHT said, with a range of events, tin shakes, corporate partnerships and online activities all being organised to raise money for the First Base Day Centre.
First Base operational manager Simon Hughes said: “On behalf of everyone who uses our centre I would like to say thank you to everyone who supported the Christmas campaign.
“We have raised over £20,000 so far, the highest amount we have ever raised from a Christmas campaign, and the donations are still coming in.
“The money we raised throughout December helped to provide support for people during what can be a very difficult and lonely time of the year and will help us to continue providing that support throughout 2015.”
