A woman was attacked and knocked unconscious in the Foredown Drive area of Portslade after a night out in Brighton.
Sussex Police said: “The victim, a 43-year-old woman, was travelling in a taxi back from Brighton with her partner when it broke down.
“She then walked off in the direction of Benfield Valley where she was assaulted by a man who knocked her to the floor and she was knocked out.
“When she came round she saw her watch had been stolen.”
The attack happened in the early hours of Sunday morning (14 December).
Detective Sergeant Steve French said: “The victim suffered cuts and bruises but thankfully didn’t need hospital treatment.
“We are appealing for anyone who might have seen a fight between a man and a woman in the Foredown Drive area between midnight and 2am.”
