Brighton and Hove is expected to be buffeted by gales with gusts of wind reaching up to 70mph, according to a severe weather warning from the Met Office.
The forecaster issued an update this morning which said: “Gales, and more locally severe gales, are expected to affect much of the country on Tuesday (21 October) and this update extends the warning across southern counties.
“Gusts of 40mph to 50mph, locally more than 50 mph are likely inland, with 60 to 70 mph gusts in some exposed coastal areas, locally higher on hills and headlands.
“The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel and possible damage to trees.
“A deep depression is affecting the UK with strong winds in its circulation and there remains the potential for disruption to travel, especially as heavy showers run through, increasing the gust strength.
“Fallen leaves impeding drainage increases the risk of surface water affecting roads while some damage to trees is possible given that many are still in full leaf.”
