Whitehawk residents were kept up last night by noisy repairs after a sewer was broken.
Duncan Hill, who lives in Rugby Place, said: ” Sometime yesterday afternoon noisy pumps etc started up, carried on through the night.
“Apparently contractors broke the sewer for Robert Lodge when demolishing Manor Place housing office.
“It sounded like angle grinders at 3 am
and there’s no out of hours contact for the council, we have months of demolition and construction coming up.”
A council spokesperson said: “We apologise for the inconvenience and disturbance caused to residents near Manor Place due to a sewage leak last night.
“Southern Water and council contractors moved swiftly to repair the pipe and clean the area.
“It appears the leak occurred during demolition work to make way for new development on the Manor Place site.
“The leak has been stopped and clean-up has been undertaken. We are doing all we can to make sure this is fully resolved as soon as possible.”
