Pranksters have rearranged the cones on Brighton seafront near the bottom of West Street.
They left the realigned cones directing drivers into oncoming traffic along the A259 King’s Road.
Officers from Sussex Police were at the scene to sort out the problem as the morning rush hour got under way this morning (Wednesday 1 October).
The cones were originally put in place to create a contraflow while work was carried out to repair the hole in the seafront road.
The eastbound side of the road collapsed above the Fortune of War pub in April. Brighton and Hove City Council hopes to have the repairs completed early next month (November).
If the dangerous prank is investigated, police should be able to review footage from a number of CCTV cameras in the area.
