Brighton and Hove Albion progressed to the 4th round of the Capital Cup for the first time in 35 seasons after overcoming Burton Albion by three goals to nil at the Pirelli Stadium.
First-half goals from Rohan Ince and Kazenga LuaLua set Albion on their way. Craig Mackail-Smith, with his third goal of the season, wrapped up the game on 65 minutes.
The match finally saw Nzuzi Toko make his competitive debut for the Seagulls.
Brighton last played in the 4th round of the League Cup in the 1979-80 season against Arsenal, going out 4-0 in a replay. Last night the Gunners were knocked out of this season’s competition by Southampton.
Albion have been drawn away to Spurs in the 4th round this season, with the fixture schedules for the week beginning Monday 27 October.
The north London side beat Championship leaders Nottingham Forest who host Albion in the league on Saturday (27 September) at The City Ground.
