Swimmers eager to return to the storm-damaged St Luke’s swimming pool will have to wait another month after yet more delays to the repair work.
The Victorian pool’s roof was badly damaged in the January storms, and the building has been closed ever since.
The repair work involves replacing all of the old polycarbonate roof panels with new double glazed units, permanently removing the damaged suspended ceiling and upgrading the air handling system.
A council spokeswoman said: “Due to further works identified during the project, St Luke’s swimming pool is now scheduled to reopen in early November.
“We apologise for the slight delay, however this is not uncommon when working on historic buildings such as St Luke’s.
“The renovation will ensure that St Luke’s can continue to service the local community to the highest standard for many years to come and restore the facility to its former Victorian glory.”
