The opening of Brighton’s first community-run pub is coming ever closer with the imminent recruitment of a manager.
An advert has been placed for a manager to make it a success when it opens later this year – and there are just two more days to apply.
It reads: “The Bevy is a new community-owned pub and café on an estate in Brighton.
“We’ve raised the money, refurbished the premises and now we need the Bevy Manager to recruit a team, open for business and work with the local community (who can’t wait for it to happen) to make the Bevy a successful community-focused business.”
The Bevy is the result of a huge grassroots campaign to reopen the old Bevendean Hotel after it closed by police in 2010 following a series of violent incidents.
Since then, more than 600 people have joined the effort to raise £200,000 to reopen the pub under community control.
The pub is now refurbished, and last month it launched another fundraising campaign to restore the swinging sign.
