A prisoner who has gone missing from Ford open prison has links to Brighton, Sussex Police said today (Thursday 11 September).
Darren Burdfield left the prison on Friday (5 September) after being released on leave for the weekend.
He was recalled to prison after a domestic incident in Worthing on Saturday at an address where he had been staying but has not since returned to Ford.
The 32-year-old was jailed for five and a half years in February last year at Nottingham Crown Court.
He had been convicted of robbery, attempted robbery, criminal damage, assault, having an offensive weapon, having a class A drug and public order offences.
Burdfield, who has links to Brighton, Worthing and Littlehampton, is white, 5ft 10in tall and of medium build with short straight black hair and blue eyes. He has tattoos of swallows on each side of his neck.
Chief Inspector Pip Taylor said: “Burdfield has a large number of friends and associates across Sussex so it is possible that he is in the county still.
“We need to speak to anyone who may have seen him or may know where he is.
“There is nothing to suggest he poses a risk to the general public but he has not served his sentence so we need to arrest him and return him to custody as quickly as possible.”
Anyone with information about where he is or who has seen him is asked to contact Sussex Police immediately on 999.
