A group of men believed to represent the owners of the empty Brewery Tap pub allegedly threatened squatters who had set up home inside this week.
Police said they were called to the former pub in North Road just before 7pm on Monday evening by one of the squatters saying he and four others living inside were being threatened.
A police spokesman said: “Officers attended and gave advice re seeking a court order if eviction was desired.”
This was the third time in two days police had been called to the premises.
At 3am in the early hours of Sunday morning, they attended after it was reported someone was trying to gain entry to the boarded-up premises.
Two men, a 23-year-old and a 20-year-old, both of no fixed address, were arrested on suspicion of going equipped to burgle. Both have been bailed until 10 September while enquiries continue.
At 5.36am on Monday, police attended the Brewery Tap again and found three or four people squatting inside the premises. No further action was taken.
Yet again, squatters and travellers have more rights than decent law abiding citizens. So wrong.
I always wonder why the people affected in these situations do not claim their place back by becoming squatters themselves.. thus putting themselves in exactly the same position as the squatters?
