A keen cyclist’s campaign to get bicycle parking in his street has
moved a step closer with a council consultation on the installation of
a ramp.
Since last May, Simon B has written letters, posted surveys, drawn up
maps and created charts to argue his case that Scotland Street should
get cycle parking.
He has documented his labour of love on his blog here and this week was finally able to
post about the council’s consultation.
He said: “The street is very narrow – Victorian bungaroosh terraces
which open directly onto the pavement with no front garden.
“For the houses on the west side, access to the garden is via the basement.
“For residents with bikes, finding somewhere to put them is tricky –
either blocking the hall inside, needing to take off wheels to fit
them in the garden or attaching them to the front of the house, which
can obstruct the narrow pavement.
“Parking is very tight on Scotland Street – it is unrestricted and
close to the city centre and extensively used by non residents – so I
thought I ought ask my neighbours if it would be okay to lose a
parking space. I put together a short survey in May 2013, and started
this website to help with that.”
Great. Then they’ll install some racks and within days they’ll be clogged with abandoned rusting hulks which the council never clear away despite repeated requests. That will awesome.
